| Peter Beveridge owner of Aquila Books has donated the Eunice Beveridge Memorial Prize to the New Zealand Association of Language Teachers in 2009. The Eunice Beveridge Memorial Prize is a greenstone pendant in a frame carved with the 3 kete of knowledge and it is in memory of Peter’s wife, Eunice, who passed away in 2008 after a battle with cancer. Eunice was an advocate for languages and had a BA (Hons) in Japanese and also attained Level 2 in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. She also spoke French very well and was studying Maori when she died. She also had an M.Sc in Analytical Chemistry!
There are two trophies awarded annually one for the winner in French and Japanese during the annual NZALT Student Competition.
Eunice's favourite colour was RED and as part of the annual presentation Peter has asked if people can wear RED in her memory. The inaugural presentation took place in December 2009 with (Peter and) Eunice's son Matthew making the presentation with an entourage of NZALT Executive, sponsors and some Beveridge family friends.
